Privacy Policy
Last updated: 24 August 2026
The short version. Clothadex stores the photos of your clothes, the details we work out from them, and the preferences you give us, so the app can suggest outfits. We send your photos and messages to Anthropic's Claude to analyse them. We never sell your data or use it for advertising. You can delete your account and everything in it from inside the app, at any time.
1. Who we are
Clothadex ("we", "us") provides a digital wardrobe app with an AI stylist. This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, and what control you have. It covers the Clothadex iPhone app and this website.
Clothadex is offered only in the United States. The app is available on the US App Store storefront only, and all of our infrastructure — servers, database, image storage and email — is located in the United States.
If you have questions about anything here, email [email protected].
2. What we collect
Information you give us
| Data | Why we have it |
|---|---|
| Email address and name | To create your account, sign you in, and send account emails |
| Password | Stored only as a one-way hash — we cannot read or recover it |
| Photos of your clothing and outfits | To catalogue items and generate outfit suggestions |
| Profile photo, if you set one | Shown on your profile |
| Style preferences, sizes, favourite brands, budget range | To tailor suggestions to you |
| Messages you send the AI stylist | To answer you, and to keep your conversation history |
| Your public handle and posts, if you join the showcase | To display them to other users |
Information collected automatically
| Data | Why we have it |
|---|---|
| Approximate location (only with your permission) | To fetch local weather so outfit suggestions suit the conditions |
| IP address of sign-in and password-reset attempts | Security only — to rate-limit brute-force attacks. Kept 24 hours, then deleted |
| Device push token, if you enable notifications | To deliver notifications you asked for |
| Feature usage counts | To enforce free-tier daily limits |
| Error and performance diagnostics | To find and fix crashes and outages |
What we do not collect
- We do not collect your contacts, calendar, microphone audio, or browsing activity outside Clothadex.
- We do not use advertising identifiers or third-party ad or analytics trackers.
- We never receive your card details. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple.
3. How we use it
- To run the app — cataloguing items, generating outfits, answering stylist questions, keeping you signed in.
- To send you service email — password resets, email confirmations, security notices. We do not send marketing email.
- To keep accounts secure — rate-limiting sign-in attempts and detecting abuse.
- To fix problems — diagnosing errors and monitoring availability.
We do not sell your personal information, share it with data brokers, or use it for advertising. We do not use your photos or messages to train AI models — see below.
4. AI processing
Clothadex uses Claude, an AI model from Anthropic, to recognise clothing in your photos and to power the stylist chat. When you add an item, scan an outfit, or send a message, that content is transmitted to Anthropic for processing and a result is returned to us.
Anthropic processes this data as our service provider, under their commercial terms. Content sent through their API is not used to train their models.
AI output can be wrong. Suggestions are recommendations, not professional advice.
5. Who we share with
We share data only with the providers needed to operate the service:
| Provider | What they receive | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Azure | All app data (hosting, database, image storage, email delivery) | Infrastructure |
| Anthropic | Your photos and stylist messages | AI analysis and chat |
| Open-Meteo | Approximate coordinates only, no account identifier | Local weather |
| RevenueCat | Your account identifier and purchase receipt | Managing subscriptions |
| Apple, Google | Sign-in verification, if you use social login | Authentication |
| Brave Search, UPCitemdb | Search terms and barcodes you look up — not your identity | Finding products and shopping links |
| Expo | Your push token | Delivering notifications |
| Cloudflare | Network traffic to our API | Encryption and abuse protection |
We may also disclose information if legally required, or to protect the rights and safety of our users. If Clothadex is ever acquired, your data may transfer with the business — we will tell you before it becomes subject to a different policy.
6. Sharing you choose
Some features publish information deliberately:
- Share links. Creating one produces a secret link that anyone holding it can open, without signing in. You can revoke a link at any time, and links can expire.
- The showcase. If you join, your handle, posts and outfit images are visible to other Clothadex users. You can leave, or make your profile private, at any time.
Please note: uploaded images are stored at randomly generated, unguessable web addresses that do not require a login to view. This lets the app display them quickly. Anyone you send an image URL to can open it. We do not list or index these addresses, and they cannot be browsed or guessed — but treat an image link as you would any private link.
7. Keeping it secure
- All traffic is encrypted in transit with HTTPS.
- Passwords are stored as one-way hashes, never as readable text.
- Credentials and API keys are held in a managed secret vault, not in application code.
- Sign-in, registration and password-reset endpoints are rate-limited against brute force.
- Changing your password signs out all devices.
No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects your data, we will notify you as required by law.
8. How long we keep it
- Account data — until you delete your account.
- Sign-in attempt records — 24 hours.
- Password reset and email-confirmation links — expire within hours of being issued.
- Diagnostic logs — up to 90 days.
- Deleted items — removed from our database immediately; the stored image files are deleted shortly after.
9. Your choices and rights
Delete everything. In the app, go to Profile → Delete Account. This permanently removes your account, closet items, outfits, scans, chat history, posts and uploaded images. It cannot be undone.
You can also update your profile and preferences, change your email address, change your password, turn location permission off in iOS Settings at any time, turn off notifications, and leave the showcase — all from within the app.
Several US states give residents rights over their personal information — to know what we hold, to get a copy, to correct it, and to have it deleted. We extend these to all our users rather than checking which state you are in. Most are available directly in the app; for anything else, email [email protected] and we will respond within the time the applicable law allows, normally 45 days.
California residents. Under the CCPA and CPRA you have the rights described above, plus the right to know what categories of information we collect and who we disclose them to — set out in sections 2 and 5. We do not sell or share your personal information as those terms are defined by that law, we do not use it for cross-context behavioural advertising, and we will never discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
10. Children
Clothadex is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has given us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Where your data lives
Everything stays in the United States. Our servers, database, image storage and email delivery all run in US Azure regions, and the services we rely on process your data in the US.
Clothadex is not offered outside the United States, so we do not transfer your personal information to other countries. If we ever make the app available elsewhere, we will update this policy before doing so.
12. Changes
We will update this page when our practices change, and revise the date at the top. For significant changes affecting your rights, we will give notice in the app or by email.
13. Contact
Questions, requests, or complaints: [email protected].
